UNIFORMS
| In 1905 parents could not afford to buy uniforms. Children
were lucky if they were able to go to school and didn't have to stay at home to help their
parents. Almost all the children went bare - footed. In the one photo that we have from
this time the children wore their very best clothes. The boys wore a cap, a jacket with
tails, shorts and socks pulled up to the knee. The girls wore pinafore style dresses with
their hair pulled into pigtails that were tied with ribbons. For sports, the girls wore a
gold uniform with a gold girdle, gold bloomer shorts, white blouse, white socks and white
sandshoes. The boys wore white shirts, white shorts with a one and a half inch gold stripe
down the side, white socks and white sandshoes. It is now 1998 and the Tacomian boys wear a light yellow polo shirt, bottle green shorts, green socks and black shoes. Their sports uniform is a yellow T-shirt with the school emblem (a seagull flying through a shield) screen printed onto it, green shorts, white socks and joggers. The Tacomian girls wear a tunic that is supposed to go down to their knees. Our tunic has white and green checks with red and yellow stitching. The tunic has a green collar. The girls wear white socks and black shoes. For our sports uniform we wear a green pleated skirt with shirts exactly the same as the boys' T-shirt and white socks and joggers. In winter both boys and girls wear the same uniform which is a light yellow polo shirt with green tracksuit and a jumper with the school emblem on it. |
