History
TACOMA
When the railway line to Wyong was opened, the fishermen found it easier to transport their catch to Sydney by rail, so they settled on the south bank of the Wyong River. Tacoma was originally known as East Wyong. Some of the fishermen came from as far away as the Illawarra Area. They set up the fishing industry of the Tuggerah Lakes which still has Tacoma as its headquarters. In about 1905 a small school was built on the southern side of Wyong River. The school operated for more than 60 years until it closed and the present school in Hillcrest Avenue opened in 1968. Only about 20 children attended the old school. The new school has been growing and growing over the years and now has a staff of 9, a canteen, a library, 6 classrooms and 154 students. Mr Sharpe started teaching at Tacoma in the same year my brother, Scott, started school there, 1990. Since that day, 30th January 1990, the school has doubled in size. Over those few years, the following changes have taken place - the installation of a canteen, paper awards became cardboard, covered netball court, tennis court, more classrooms, bigger and better library, different uniforms, computers, gardens and lots more.
